WE LOOK FORWARD TO WELCOMING YOU IN 2010

The Landesgartenschau Hemer 2010 would like to invite people from all over the world to come and experience a charming mix of landscape architecture and nature conservation – North-Rhine Westphalia is limitless. For this reason Hemer, a town situated in the heart of North-Rhine Westphalia, is proud to present the first garden show of this type in the beautiful Sauerland – the fifteenth garden show of this type in North-Rhine Westphalia.

One question which had to be answered when the Bundeswehr left the town was what to do with the premises of the Blücher Barracks, formerly the home of the German Army with its Leopard tanks and other special vehicles. This was not an easy question to answer, but it proved possible to come up with a suitable answer.

The former parade square of the barracks is undergoing “The Magic of Change” and will represent the “Sky Mirror”. From here the “Stairway to the Sky” leads to the top of the hill - the Sauerland is known for its many hills. Climbing the stairway with its 343 steps can prove to be a real challenge for some visitors, but does not have to be. Those visitors who do not wish to climb the 343 steps can reach the top of the hill by walking up the zig-zag path. Groups of trees, shrubs and plants surrounding the stairway and the path will represent an additional landscape to be admired. No matter whether you climb the steps or walk up the path, once you reach the top you will have tackled an altitude of 92 metres.  At the top of the hill you will find a further visitor attraction – the “Jübergturm”. This 23 metre high tower will offer you a unique view of the surrounding area of the Sauerland.

Why not immerse into the world of the Felsenmeer (a cleft, rugged rocky landscape) or visit the Heinrichshöhle (cave) and its underworld with stalactites and stalagmites.  From the premises of the garden show you can also observe the Dülmen wild horses or the Heck cattle which have settled in the former military training area.

Don’t miss the chance of a ten minute walk to the heart of our town where you will also experience „The Magic of Change“. Whilst the Hemer Town Council is making every effort to offer visitors the best traffic situations, local restaurants, bars and cafes  will do their best to offer you sparkling refreshments and hearty dishes before or after a visit to the Landesgartenschau. Retailers will do their best to make a shopping spree as enjoyable as possible!

By the way, the Landesgartenschau Hemer will open daily from 09.30hrs between 17 April 2010 and 24 October 2010. The latest permitted entry will be at 18.30hrs and the gates will close when it starts getting dark.

When special events take place, ticket offices will remain open until the event begins.
